Public Notice COVID-19 Pandemic Update – Outdoor Recreation Amenities

Posted on May 21, 2020

TERRACE BAY, ON May 21, 2020 As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the Township of Terrace Bay remains active in monitoring the situation and continues to evaluate all communications from Public Health Agencies, Federal and Provincial Government related to the pandemic. We are also in contact with local businesses and neighboring communities to share and ensure best practices for the health and well-being of our residents are in place.  Community safety is of utmost importance as we consider the next steps in this situation.

The Township has reviewed the recent information as released by the Province on May 19, 2020 regarding outdoor amenities. Based on the information received, the Township has made the following decisions:

  • Picnic tables in all areas are considered open to the public as of May 21.
  • The Skate Park and Tennis courts will be open as of May 21.
  • The Aguasabon Gorge Boardwalk will be open as of May 21
  • Parks and greenspaces are open to foot traffic only (no playground equipment or team sports) as of May 21

Individuals using these amenities, except for members of the same household, are required to maintain a physical distance of at least two metres (2m) or six feet (6ft).    READ MORE

Any washrooms at these locations are also now available but are only cleaned and sanitized once a day.  All users should take proper precautions and wash hands or sanitize after any contact.

At this time, the following outdoor amenities will remain closed:

  • Playgrounds, play structures and equipment
  • Public swimming pools
  • The gazebo at the skate park.

Please continue to monitor our social media, website and local media for updates and information.

The weather has been wonderful lately and as much as we want to get outdoors to allow families and individuals to enjoy our outdoor amenities, we are not “out of the woods” yet. It is imperative that physical distancing still be adhered to in order to protect our community and support the sacrifices made by everyone during COVID-19 thus far.  Our community and front-line workers remain at risk.  Please be kind to them as well as your neighbours.  We will get through this together.” Mayor Jody Davis.
