WASTE MANAGEMENT
The Township of Terrace Bay utilizes a variety of methods to divert waste and promote recycling.
Terrace Bay Landfill
The Terrace Bay landfill is operated by the Township of Terrace Bay and user agreements have been established with the Township of Schreiber. The landfill is located 7 kms West of the Terrace Bay town centre and has an expected life of over 25 years with possible room for expansion. The site area includes: a scrap metal transfer and dewatering area for processed sewage and septic waste.

There is currently no industrial class recycling facility in the township and the closest location is in Thunder Bay.
Recycling and Waste Diversion
The Township of Terrace Bay does not currently offer a recycling program as its recycling provider has recently ceased operations. It is in the process of developing a sustainable and cost effective means of offering this service. Recycling and waste diversion is extremely important to the Township, as outlined in the 2007-2011 Strategic Plan, and it is expected that a alternative means of recycling will soon be available.
Sewage Treatment
Sewage is treated using settling ponds South of the Township in line with guidelines from the Ministry of the Environment. Capacity easily meets the needs of the Township's residents and businesses with Terrace Bay Pulp Inc. using other methods to treat its waste.
