At the May 20, 2025 Regular meeting, Council accepted a letter of resignation from Councillor B. Johnson, effective July 31, 2025.

RESOLVED THAT Council accepts the letter of resignation from Councillor Bert Johnson effective July 31, 2025.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT Councillor Johnson be
recognized for his years of dedicated service on Terrace Bay Council and to the Community.

Under the Municipal Act, 2001, Council vacancies are dealt with starting under Sec. 259.
The resignation letter was officially (signed and dated) received by the Clerk’s office on May 13, 2025 and by Council on the May 20, 2025 agenda. As stated in the letter, the resignation takes effect July 31, 2025.
At the first Regular meeting in August Council must pass a resolution declaring the seat vacant in accordance with Sec. 263 (5) 1 of the Municipal Act. The Township (Council) has 60 days following the passing of the declaration resolution to fill the vacancy via appointment or by-election.

Vacancy Candidates
Council has approved proceeding with the appointment of a new member through an open call. Applications are now being accepted from interested members of the public.
The deadline to apply is Friday, August 29, 2025.
As outlined in Council’s policy, the appointment will be made at a Special Meeting of Council, which will be scheduled following the application period. At the Regular Council Meeting on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Council will receive a report outlining the process required for the Special Meeting, along with a recommendation for the date and time of that meeting.
