Applications are now being accepted for the position of Full-Time Utility Person at the Terrace Bay Public Works Department.

DUTIES:

  • Operating mobile and auxiliary equipment
  • Performing general, manual labour, to maintain, repair, install and service municipal utilities and works.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent and a valid Class
  • “DZ” Drivers Licence. One to three years experience in heavy equipment operation.

Candidates without a “DZ” drivers license holding all other qualifications may be considered.

TOURISM

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Develop knowledge of local and regional attractions, events, businesses, services and products
  • Welcome visitors in a warm, friendly, professional manner (well-dressed and groomed)
  • Distribute travel literature, assist tourists with directions, maps and answer questions
  • Encourage visitors to experience aspects of our region
  • Set-up displays and brochure racks in an organized, neat and accessible manner
  • Write information articles, develop posters, and brochures
  • Manage the diverse concerns, interests and needs of tourists and contacts in a positive manner
  • Collect statistics (through discussion with tourists), write reports and maintain routine information centre

Recreation

JOB DESCRIPTION:

You will have well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with staff, community members and pool patrons.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Lifesaving Society Instructor
  • Current National Lifeguard Certification
  • Current Standard First Aid/ CPR ‘C’ certification
  • Should be 16 years of age
  • Experience as a lifeguard or instructor an asset

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Report to Swim Pool Team Lead. Perform other duties as assigned by the Team Lead.
  • Is responsible to plan, organize and implement swim lessons at all levels which will include:
    – Preparing long range and daily lesson plans as advised by Swim Pool Team Lead.
    – Keeping progress records and continuous evaluation for all swimmers
  • Ensure safety and maintain high safety standards at all times for all patrons.
  • Ensure a fun, safe and healthy aquatic experience, providing excellent customer service.
  • Required to instruct swim lessons and lifeguard.
  • Requires working flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Required to assist in any maintenance or other such tasks as assigned by the Team Lead.
  • Is responsible for maintaining a good public image for the facility, for maintaining good public relations and to promote aquatics in the Town of Terrace Bay.
  • Required to attend and participate in pre-service training, in-service training and staff meetings.
  • Required to keep in good physical condition through practice and participation in in-service training sessions.
  • Required to wear proper aquatic uniform while on duty

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Bronze Medallion and/or Bronze Cross qualifications
  • Should be 14 years of age

DUTIES:

  • Learn, respect, and enforce all policies and procedures
  • Be alert, vigilant and preventative on deck
  • Is responsible to maintain high safety standards at all times
  • Answer the phone, check members, daily cashier responsibilities, and general office duties when in the office
  • Keep deck and office tidy and clean at all times
  • Positively model the rules of the pool
  • Is responsible for maintaining a good public image for the facility, for maintaining good public relations and to promote aquatics in the Town of Terrace Bay.
  • All other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the Pool Manager or Assistant Manager
  • Required to assist the Lifeguard on duty, as requested and to assume all responsibilities of a leader/guard at that time.
  • Required to assist the Swim Instructor during swim lessons.
  • Required to attend and participate in pre-service training, in-service training and staff meetings.
  • Required to keep in good physical condition through practice and participation in inservice training sessions.
  • Required to wear proper aquatic uniform while on duty.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in organizing minor soccer teams.
  • Assist in recruiting volunteer coaches.
  • Assist in contacting coaches, parents and volunteers when required.
  • Setting up all required equipment for Minor Soccer.
  • Lining field for soccer.
  • Referee all games.
  • Able to communicate with children, parents and coaches.
  • Complete an inventory of Minor Soccer equipment.
  • Assist in planning a Minor Soccer BBQ & Swim Party.
  • Assist with advertising and promotion of soccer programs.
  • Reports to the Community Development Assistant

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Parks Maintenance Labourer is expected to work with other employees to keep all recreation facilities and buildings in a clean and safe condition.
  • This position requires janitorial duties within the complex, as well as working outdoors in the playgrounds, parks, pool, tennis courts, ballfield, beach, beachfront and Township of Terrace Bay’s outdoor attractions during the summer.
  • Must be able to operate necessary equipment – lawn mowers, cleaning equipment, etc.
  • Plant trees in designated public places
  • Weed and maintain flower beds throughout the Township
  • Weed and maintain Downtown Simcoe Plaza Area.
  • Assist in cutting grass throughout the Township
  • Pick-up litter throughout the township when required
  • Minor maintenance to park amenities
  • Must possess a valid drivers license
  • Rate of Pay – Minimum Wage
  • Position is May to August – up to 40 hours per week. High School students are encouraged
  • to apply as work hours are flexible (ie; evenings and weekends)
  • Supervisor – Real Deschatelets, Maintenance Supervisor or designate

Public Works

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • This position requires outdoor ground maintenance duties within the Township.
  • Must be able to operate necessary equipment – lawn mowers, etc.
  • Assist in cutting grass throughout the Township.
  • Pick-up litter throughout the township when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.
  • Rate of Pay – Minimum Wage.
  • Position is 40 hours per week from 7:00am to 3:30pm.
  • Supervisor – Public Works Superintendent or designate.

To be eligible for the Summer Student Employment Program, you must satisfy the following criteria:

  • be legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • be 15 years of age or older by the first day of summer employment;
  • be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary program or institution of higher learning on a full-time basis, returning to school or graduating that same year, and;
  • if a part-time student in university or college, your transcript must indicate that the course of study is leading you to a degree or diploma.

STEP 1Application phase. All applicants are given the opportunity to apply from March 10 to April 17, 2025. The closing time for all applications is 5:00 pm Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

STEP 2Assessment phase. This will take place during the month of April. All applications will be reviewed and the interview process may begin. If selected for an interview, you may be contacted by email and/or telephone, as per the information provided on your application.

STEP 3Decision Making and Selection phase. This will take place throughout the month of April and early May. Successful applicant’s credentials and job specific qualifications will be reviewed and copies collected. If successful, a verbal job offer will be issued.

STEP 4Hiring and Documentation phase. This will take place either in April or in the beginning of May. Successful applicants will be instructed to accept their offer letter, in addition to completing mandatory hiring documentation in a timely manner. Hire dates for Summer Students may begin as early as May 1st.

  • Social Insurance Number
  • Banking Information (void cheque or a bank validated deposit form)—the bank account must be in your name.
