Public Notice – Council Vacancy Township of Terrace Bay

TAKE NOTICE that a vacancy exists on the Township of Terrace Bay Council for one (1) Councillor. Council has determined to fill this vacancy by appointment through a Call for Nominees in accordance with the Township of Terrace Bay’s Council Vacancy Policy (C-3-34). The term of this position will begin on the date of Council appointment and continue until November 14, 2026.

Eligibility Requirements
A candidate for Municipal office must be a qualified municipal elector as set out in the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 and must meet all of the following criteria:
• Reside in, or be the owner or tenant of land in the Township of Terrace Bay, or be the spouse of such owner or tenant
• Be a Canadian citizen
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Not be prohibited from voting under Section 17(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 or otherwise by law.
• Not be ineligible under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 or any other Act or otherwise prohibited by law to be nominated for or to hold the office.


Any individual wishing to be considered for appointment to fill the Council vacancy will be required to provide identification to prove their eligibility to the satisfaction of the Clerk


Application Process
Interested nominees must complete:
• Council Appointment Consent of Nominee Form
• Council Vacancy Declaration of Qualifications Form
These forms must be submitted in person to the Clerk’s Office during regular business hours no later than August 29, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. An appointment must be scheduled with the Clerk or designate for this purpose. Candidates may also choose to submit a personal statement of qualifications, to a maximum of five (5) 8.5 X 11 pages in length, for consideration of Council.


Any candidate who wishes to withdraw their application may do so in-person and in-writing to the Clerk. The deadline for any withdrawal shall be any time up to 10:00am on the Friday before the date of the Special Council meeting to fill the vacancy.


The Township Clerk will create a list of all eligible candidates who have complied with the application process. All applications (including Personal statements of qualifications) shall be considered public documents and will be made available for public viewing in the same way as a nomination for a candidate in a municipal election or by-election and shall be available for viewing in the Clerk’s Office at, 1 Selkirk Ave. Terrace Bay, Ontario.
