Terrace Bay Community Garden Program
Chris Dube and his science class at Lake Superior High School have partnered with Terrace Bay to create a community garden aimed at promoting food sovereignty. Announced in February of 2024, the project has received $4,000 in provincial funding, with an additional $1,000 to build accessible raised beds. The garden, located behind the Terrace Bay Seniors Centre, encourages skill-sharing between students and seniors.
Students have constructed 15 raised beds for community use. Each box, costing $5 per year, requires residents to handle upkeep. The program reflects Dube’s commitment to experiential learning and community involvement, teaching students about food sources, costs, and sustainability.
