Terrace Bay Downtown Revitalization Project
The downtown revitalization project in Terrace Bay aimed to refresh the community’s central hub, embracing a nautical theme inspired by the town’s proximity to Lake Superior. Central to the project were the additions of new storefront canopies, facades, walkways, and three timber entrance structures, each contributing to a cohesive and inviting aesthetic.
The design and material choices reflected the natural landscape and the essence of Lake Superior. Rippled “galvalume” cladding and multicolored blue wave motifs were incorporated to create a visual connection with the waves of the lake, unifying the entire downtown core. To enhance this theme, new concrete walkways were connected to existing sidewalks through blue concrete stains laid out in an interlocking wave pattern. This design choice provided a seamless and visually engaging experience for pedestrians.
To further emphasize the nautical atmosphere, the project included the installation of new LED street lighting, along with façade and soffit lighting for the canopies, ensuring that the vibrant look of the downtown area was carried into the evening hours.
