Dark Sky Week & Globe at Night

Terrace Bay is fortunate to have naturally dark skies, offering a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of the night sky.

This April, we invite residents to take part in two global initiatives that celebrate and protect our night environment:

  • Globe at Night (April 9–18)
  • Dark Sky Week (April 13–20)

What is Globe at Night?

Globe at Night is a worldwide citizen science campaign that invites people to measure light pollution by observing the night sky and submitting their findings.

It takes just 10 minutes to participate, and your observations contribute to real scientific research.

Rehabilitation of Hudson Drive Water, Storm, and Sewer Infrastructure Receives Provincial Funding

Terrace Bay, Ontario — 2026/02/9 — The Township of Terrace Bay is pleased to announce that the Province of Ontario has approved funding toward the rehabilitation of water, sewer, stormwater and road infrastructure under the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP–HSWS)

This major infrastructure renewal will address critical water, stormwater, and wastewater needs along the entirety of Hudson Drive and potentially portions of Birch Crescent, supporting the long‑term safety, reliability, and resilience of Terrace Bay’s core infrastructure. The project will help protect existing housing, safeguard public health and safety, and ensure the community’s infrastructure remains strong for decades to come.

The Ministry of Infrastructure has committed up to $11,170,887 toward eligible project costs on a projected total project budget of $15M. The Township will contribute the remaining share of the project budget and will be responsible for any additional or ineligible costs that arise throughout the project’s construction phase.  Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and be fully completed by 2029.

“We are grateful for the province’s support of this essential infrastructure investment,” said Mayor Paul Malashewski. “This project strengthens the services residents rely on every day and reinforces Terrace Bay’s commitment to maintaining safe, modern, and sustainable infrastructure.”

Before construction can begin, the Township will work with the Ministry of Infrastructure to finalize a Transfer Payment Agreement (TPA) and complete all required provincial processes, including Duty‑to‑Consult and Environmental Assessment obligations where applicable. Early project activities such as design and engineering may proceed while these steps are underway. Additional details, including timelines and construction impacts, will be shared with the community as planning progresses.
