Government Municipal Services Public Works Recycling

WHEN IS CURBSIDE RECYCLING PICK-UP?

Curbside recycling pickup takes place on the last Thursday of every month—recyclables must be on the curbside before 7:00 am. The pick-up service is available, free of charge to all residential users within the township.

CAN I DROP OFF MY RECYCLING AT THE LANDFILL?

Yes, you can drop off your recycling at the Terrace Bay Landfill—there is no cost for residents and businesses. The rules and requirements for recycling are the same for both businesses and residents.

HOW AND WHAT CAN I RECYCLE?

When recycling in Terrace Bay, we ask that residents use transparent plastic bags (regardless of colour) and keep fibres and containers in separate bags. Please clean your containers of any food before recycling—fibres must be dry.

What residents and business can recycle is outlined below.

 

CONTAINERS

The following containers are recyclable:
Item Requirements
Cans Aluminum and metal; crushed (if possible)
Aluminum foil wrap & trays Cleaned and crumpled
Gable top cartons Flattened
Juice boxes Flattened and without the straws
Plastic containers All #1 to #7s (look for the symbol on the bottom); crushed (if possible) and caps removed

 

FIBRES
The following fibre products are recyclable:
  • Boxboard
  • Cardboard
  • Fine papers
  • Flyers and junk mail
  • Magazines
  • Newspaper
  • Paper egg cartons
  • Soft cover books

 

LARGE CARDBOARDS
If your cardboard is too large for plastic bags, please then dry, flattened and bundled it with string or twine, at a maximum of 3 ft. x 2 ft. x 1ft.

 

WHAT CAN I NOT RECYCLE?

The following items are to placed in the garbage or recycled using alternative methods:
  • Aerosols
  • Glass
  • Plastic bags
  • Plastic bottle caps
  • Plastics not labelled
  • Straws
  • Styrofoam
  • Tupperware
  • Styrofoam

 

CAN I RECYCLE MY ELECTRONIC WASTE (E-WASTE)?

Yes, a free e-waste recycling program is available for residents and businesses at the Terrace Bay Landfill. We will accept all mercury-free electronics.
The following can be dropped off at the Terrace Bay Landfill, but is not limited to:
  • Amplifiers
  • Answering machines
  • Audio/visual players and recorders
  • Cables
  • Cameras
  • Cellphones
  • Computers
  • Copiers
  • Fax machines
  • Keyboards
  • Laptops
  • Mice
  • Monitors
  • Printers
  • Radios/receivers
  • Scanners
  • Speakers
  • Telephones
  • Tuners
  • Turntables
  • Video players & projectors
  • Video recorders
Electronics are not to be included amoung recycling for curbside pick-up. However, during Residential Spring Clean-Up Week, the township will be offering free e-waste curbside pick-up.

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY SCRAP METAL?

A scrap metal collection program available at the Terrace Bay Landfill and will accept any and all forms of scrap metal, appliances and metal-based items from businesses and residents, at a cost (Landfill Site Passes).

Please note: on-site attendants have the final say for what will or will not be accepted as “scrap metal.”

Landfill Site Passes must be purchased at the Terrace Bay Community Centre Office; passes are not available for purchase at the landfill.

The costs for scrap metal drop-off is as follows:

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY OLD TIRES?

The Township is registered with Ontario Tire Stewardship and accepts tires from most passenger (on and off-road), industrial and agricultural vehicles at the landfill—provided that the tires are without rims, the service is free.

Landfill Site Passes must be purchased at the Terrace Bay Community Centre Office; passes are not available for purchase at the landfill.
